Hotel Mediterraneo Benidorm

A sneaky look at the HOTEL MEDITERRANEO a superb low rise 4* hotel on the edge of town in the Rincon de Loix, Levante Benidorm.

mediterraneopool
The Hotel
Located directly opposite the Benidorm Palace and only a five minute walk to Aqualandia and Mundomar the 4* Mediterraneo is in a great location for both adults and families to enjoy a break in Benidorm away from all the noise. A modern low-rise hotel of just three floors making this one of the few in Benidorm where you do not need to wait for the lifts at rush hour! Built just 11 years ago, guests will find everything they could need for a hotel based holiday with plenty of large guest areas including a huge pool.

mediterraneoroom
The Rooms
With just 170 rooms over two floors (2nd and 3rd) sleeping a total of just 342 guests. Each room has twin beds and a sofa bed. Rooms are a good size all with large balconies overlooking either the pool, mountains or the Benidorm Palace. Immaculately kept by a very good housekeeping team you will find all you need for holiday accommodation. Rooms offer soft pastel colours, simple unfussy furnishings, a full length mirror, fridge, flat screen TV and furnished balcony. Bathrooms have a shower and full size bath and yes they do have a hair dryer.

mediterraneobuffet
The Food
Served in the buffet restaurant with a decent mix of Spanish and mainly international food. With a large number of guests staying all inclusive the food represents very good value if a little unimaginative. Similar too most hotels who offer all inclusive options trying to cater for the majority. Overall good food for a very touristy hotel where even the fussy eater should find something they like.

The Pool Terrace
Located in the massive central courtyard the large pool plus paddling pool is a real suntrap with plenty of sun loungers to go round. A lively place to enjoy your day with a pool bar and inside bar to choose from. The big indoor pool is also easy to find located opposite the main pool.

What You Should Know
The hotel will suit couples, small groups and families who enjoy all inclusive value holidays or half board. A popular choice with Thomson, Jet2, Thomas Cook and First Choice guests and as such standards are high to comply with their requirements. You should not therefore be disappointed, the return rate is very good here. The location on the edge of town makes for a 15 walk to the beach but for evenings you are a hop from great show bars such as Levi´s Showboat. Book now @ www.realbenidorm.net/mediterraneo

Hotel Don Pancho A Very Grand Benidorm Hotel

Enjoy a sneaky look at the HOTEL DON PANCHO a rather lovely and grand old hotel.  With no end of regulars who would back me up on this observation the 4* hotel Don Pancho is in a class of its own with a very fine heritage from the days when grand really did mean grand. You will meet guests who have stayed here every year for more than thirty years and married couples who once stayed here with their parents when they were young. Everything about the hotel says elegance and class.

The Hotel
Located half way along the Levante and just one street back from the beach and promenade the 17 story hotel is a triumph of 1970´s architecture at its best. There are stunning gardens and water features before entering the welcoming lobby. Once inside, guests will find a huge lounge and saloon bar on the ground floor plus a quiet reading/card room. The restaurant, cabaret ballroom, pools and sun terrace are on the first floor.

don-pancho-room
The Rooms
Offering 252 rooms sleeping just over 500 guests with smart furniture, very comfy beds and all the facilities you would expect in such a classy hotel. Last refurbished in 2004 the rooms are well maintained if perhaps a little faded around the edges. All offer a balcony with great views from the upper floors. A team of hard working staff keep the rooms impeccably clean.

The Food
Served in the buffet restaurant which like the rest of the hotel is a quality Spanish experience with a dress code in the evening of smart casual and no shorts. Lots of show cooking and plenty of the best of fresh Spanish cuisine and a decent wine cellar. Evening meals are served until 22:30 in the summer. For those who enjoy a good breakfast, full English is served too!

donpancho-lounge

The Pool Terrace
Located above reception offering two pools (one covered and heated in winter), a smart poolside café bar, lots of sun beds and a large covered terrace to sit and enjoy a drink or a snack. Not a very large space but with the beach just a hop away not really an issue as many guests head out for the day.

What You Should Know
The hotel will suit couples who like to be left alone, appreciate good old fashioned service and prefer to stay away from the “all English” hotels. The location is perfect to access late night venues, the old town and beach. You will not see large groups here nor stags and hens. Staff are highly trained, very professional and look after guests well without being in your face. Hotel Don Pancho a grand old dame indeed, we liked, very much.

Hotel Deloix Aqua Center in Benidorm

A sneaky look at the very fabulous HOTEL DELOIX  4*

Hotel Deloix Benidorm

THE HOTEL  location - Avenida  Doctor Severo Ochoa, 34  03503 Benidorm

Often overlooked by many visitors due to the location on the edge of town, however the Hotel De Loix is clearly one of the better choices and is simply perfect for a weekend break where you just want to chill by the pool all day and venture out at night.

This is a low-rise hotel big on style with superb hanging gardens and a lush tropical internal featured garden too.  There is a real feeling of space with modern furniture in the reception and café bar which creates an awesome atmosphere.  This is no ordinary hotel, this is somewhere very special and quite unique in Benidorm.  Staff were all friendly too.

THE ROOMS

You get big here!  Big rooms, big balconies and big views of the surrounding mountains and countryside.  All 188 rooms are furnished in a minimalist but functional style making that big space feel even bigger!  Every room comes with a comfy sofa which is great for couples and for families with either one or two children the sofa quickly converts into a bed for the kids.  Internet is a decent speed and cost just 5€ per week.

THE FOOD

A buffet restaurant offering a good selection for breakfast, more continental with less hot selection than us Brits prefer, but nice enough.  Evening meals include an abundant selection of fresh salad plus a choice of fish and meats from the hot buffet.  Wine by the glass comes in at under 2€ and a big bottle of water just 3€ so inexpensive for drinks with your meals.  Lots of fresh fruit and sticky deserts.  All in all always something nice to eat and perfect for a long weekend, probably get a bit dull after a week but buffets always do.

THE POOLS

A nice big pool awaits you with plenty of sunbeds plus an excellent Kids pool located in a shaded position so you don´t have to worry about the Kids roasting away in the sun!  For those who prefer their breaks child free there is an Adult only pool on the rooftop, a huge bonus to be honest.  The indoor pool is fantastic (obligatory silly hats only 2.50€) with some nice features.  Pool towels are available for a 1€ fee.  They keep the pool area closed until 10am, to stop the annoying folks putting towels out before breakfast.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

The walk to the beach takes 20 minutes on the flat, regular buses stop outside the hotel to take you down to the beach and back (Taxis cost about 6€).  Benidorm Palace is across the road for a superb dinner and show experience (a must) and Aqualandia and Mundomar just a 10 minute walk behind the hotel.  The road leading into Benidorm is littered with bars and cafés including the popular Levi´s Showboat for some fun nights out.  From September onwards expect mainly couples and very few children.  This is not a hotel with lots of groups so unlikely to encounter any Hens or Stags here, hoorah!  Enjoy, we did.

Hotel Orange Benidorm A Popular Levante Hotel

hotel-orange-benidormDeciding where to stay in Benidorm can be an uphill climb, what is perfect for one person could be holiday hell for another!  Of course Benidorm is rarely a place for peace and tranquillity, BUT, finding the right mix of fun, sun and a little bit of chill time is crucial if you are to return home relaxed with a feeling of time and money well spent.

In the first of a series from our mystery man on the street we attempt to offer you the “real” hotels behind the brochures.  This week the amazingly popular HOTEL ORANGE.

THE HOTEL

The first thing that strikes you about the hotel Orange as you walk through the entrance is the incredibly well kept lobby and lounge area.  This is a typical hotel from servigroup, the obvious investment in furnishings that will last, are easy to maintain and tip-top housekeeping are evident here.  Although an older style (1970´s) hotel the modernising in recent years has kept the building up to date including soundproofed doors to balconies, a real plus for a stay in the heart (Café Benidorm disco pub is opposite!) of the Playa Levante. A couple of guests mentioned to me that they were staying overlooking the late bars and could barely notice any noise after a few Vodkas and once the terrace doors were closed!

THE ROOMS

Refurbished only a couple of years ago, rooms are modern and bright with wooden floors, flat screen TV including plenty of UK Channels, not just the news.  WiFi is free and does work in rooms too.  There is a mini-fridge for chilling your drinks.  Guests also mentioned that the showers are really powerful and the cleaning is 100%.  All you could need then!

THE FOOD

Probably one of the main reasons that so many British guests love this hotel is the food.  The dining options are very much geared toward foreign visitors with just the right mix of local cuisine and dishes we northern Europeans like!  Breakfast is vast and will fill you up all day.  With 16 hotels and over 8,000 beds servigroup has a central food supply which enables them to offer well above average catering.  Worth the few extra Euros to go Full Board here.

THE POOL

At first it appears perhaps a bit on the small side, but when you add up the fact the hotel only has a maximum 500 guests most of whom head for the beach (3 minute walk) it is never a problem finding a sunbed from the many provided, on my visit this week there was plenty of room to spare around the pool or on the sun deck above.  Drinks are just a hop away from the poolside bar too.  No sign of any rowdy groups either, seemed to be mostly couples.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

The location is right in the very centre of the resort and opposite many of the late night venues.  Therefore some noise should be expected at night when staying in this area. The hotel is popular with couples who like to party and some groups too, but the soundproofed terrace doors really do make a difference.  The hotel management are good at sorting out any rowdy folks, so a quick call to reception quickly sorts out any issues.  Like every hotel in Benidorm, fellow guests can never be anticipated, so do not let the location put you off booking.  We loved the hotel Orange, it is ideal for a few nights away if good food, great nights out and a very clean place to stay is on your list.  Enjoy, YOUR weekender in Benidorm.

Costa Blanca Walks

Sunday calorie burn high above sea level with a hike in them hills…

Costa Blanca Walks

The mountain (or is it a big hill) above Sierra Cortina and behind Terra Mitica offers a relatively easy to moderate climb and superb walk with some of very best views of Benidorm.  The climb to the top takes about one hour on a rough well used loose stone path. A few parts are quite steep.  This is a walk for those who enjoy walking, not for those who prefer a Sunday stroll with a pub at the end of it!  But, the rewards are panoramic (take a camera) scenes that very few people ever get an opportunity to view.

To start this lovely walk, take the Finestrat road (CV767) from Benidorm until you reach the roundabout where the entrance to the Sierra Cortina resort is, turn right  (Calle Isla Gran Canaria) and park up 100m along the road where you will see a verge and a few trees on the left with a rough path heading upwards (obviously).  Start you climb here.  Do take lunch, water, first aid kit and wear decent walking footwear.

Holidays in BenidormOnce at the summit you can choose to simply enjoy the view or continue along the path for a further 5kms or so along the top and back again.  The path across the summit is easy to follow and an easy to moderate walk.  From here you can look down on Benidorm, Terra Mitica and take in the views as far as Alicante and Calpe.

You do not need to be very fit, 20kg overweight, an ex-smoker (50 a day) and 52 years of age still allowed me to get to the top of this little mountain.  You will likely not be alone along the way.  I met among others, three muscled cage fighters, three Hungarians with scary shotguns, various dog walkers, serious hiking folk and assorted tourists in various states of advanced sunburn!  Perhaps not for everyone, but the calorie burn must exceed 1,000 and the idea of doing something different rather than the usual tourist stuff does appeal and is well worth the effort on a Sunday to finish of your Benidorm weekender. Come see us soon, why not book the hotel La Cala in Finestrat beach near Benidorm for a long relaxing weekend today!
