Benidorm Market

From yummy CUPCAKES to Adidas FAKES…….
Benidorm Sunday & Wednesday Market has it all and more.
Benidorm Market
Benidorm Sunday and Wednesday Market

The vast market located on the edge of Benidorm in the Rincon de Loix and it is vast, offers everything you could want in a bargain basement sort of way!  Even the most demanding deal conscious shopper should find plenty of happy stallholders willing to exchange your Euros for some look-a-like designer gear or a cheap handbag or two!

There is more to the infamous Benidorm market than meets the eye.  This is no ordinary marketplace, here you can enjoy a good few hours putting to rest those animal hunting instincts we all have and forage for treats to eat, clothes to wear and sneak up on some bargain booty hidden among row after row of stalls.

Of course, there are the staple stalls found in every market such as long-established fruit and veg businesses and sellers of pic-n-mix nuts, dried fruits and olives galore.  If cheap leather is your thing and brown is your colour!  You will find a dozen stalls retailing 50 shades of brown coats, bags, shoes, belts of course and even leather hats just like the traveller community wear.

At the back of the market are the cafeteria bars, which you will need after seemingly endless miles of walking up and down the market in the search for those special offers.  Enjoy burgers, beers and even Cupcakes or just a coffee then sit and watch the world go by.

Benidorm market is like Woolworth used to be, pile it high and sell it cheap.  They certainly do and despite a number of stalls arguably selling mainly tatty stuff, if you are keen-eyed and enjoy a good routing there are many genuine bargains to be found.  Even the fake Adidas appear quite well made and would probably fool Adidas!  And those Cupcakes are quite delicious.

Whatever your impression, Benidorm market has been around almost as long as Benidorm and is a must visit place either on Wednesday or Sunday.  There is a great atmosphere, it is busy and almost everyone seems to leave with arms full of carrier bags.  Get there early and remember it is all over by 2pm. Have fun!

One of the best hotels to stay in near the market is the popular 3 star hotel Pueblo, just 100m walk from the entrance to the market.

Benidorm Island

A big welcome to our brand new and updated Benidorm holiday blog! For our first article we revisit Benidorm Island, the protected Bird and Marine life sanctuary.

Benidorm Island Boat Excursion
Boat Trip to Benidorm island.

Daily boats run all year from 10am departing at the harbour in the old town and from the jetty at the far end of the Playa Levante (summer only) in the Rincon de Loix, below the Lido Hotel.  The 25 minute journey offers stunning views of Benidorm and superb photo opportunities as you head to the famous island.  Adults cost 15€ and children 12€. The price includes a trip on a yellow submarine.  Boats run every hour or so during the daytime.  Obligatory photo taken as you board!

The trip across the sea is great for a family and for a cost of 54€ for a family of four is acceptable for a boat trip and a morning out on the high-seas.  As you approach the island you notice just how big this home for Birds above the water and marine life below actually is.  The cliffs tower 240 feet above sea level.

Boat at Benidorm island
Benidorm Island Boat docking at the island.

As soon as you land and before getting your wobbly sea legs sorted you are hurriedly herded into the little yellow submarine with 24 fellow sea mates.  Of course the submarine whilst looking just like the one the Beatles sang about is actually a glass bottom boat for you to enjoy a short journey to the bottom of the seas.  Yes, there are some fish to see and it is a rather unique experience, but you cannot help notice that the fish are fed to ensure they are always on hand to entertain. Fat fish for sure!

After an underwater adventure, you can hike up to the very top of the island.  Follow the path to the top of the cliffs.  The first thing you notice is that the island is a haven for 1000´s of seabirds and as such really is entirely covered in bird poop in a big way!  Putting this aside it is well worth the walk to the top simply to enjoy the views and say you have done it.  If you love seabirds you will be in heaven. Absolutely fantastic opportunities to take photos looking back toward Benidorm.

Return boats are frequent (every hour) giving you plenty of time to enjoy a swim off the rocks by the café or just a drink or a menu of the day in the terrace café, a pleasant place to sit and soak up the views of the coast.  A soft drink comes in at 2.50€, a menu of the day with house salad, a main course, dessert and a drink costs just 16€.

Benidorm Boat Excursions
Benidorm Boat Excursions, at sea in the Levante bay.

All in all a trip worth doing, so you can say you have done it.  The boat trip is good, the island is a protected bird sanctuary so do not expect much to see or do.  It is what it is and deserves a few hours of holiday time to see what all the fuss is about.  The obligatory photo is waiting for you as you disembark.  A ceramic souvenir bowl with your photo in the bottom for 11€.  I declined the offer, but lots of fellow passengers did make a purchase.  A pleasant few hours, a trip to add to the must do list of things to do in Benidorm.

Staying near the harbour in Benidorm makes for a really relaxing beach break, one of the top beach hotels in Benidorm overlooks the harbour with easy access to boat excursions.
