QUIETER BEACH HOLIDAYS
Enjoy a beach with 3.2kms of soft white sand, clear blue warm sea and great places to pop in for a drink along the colourful promenade. The beach with it´s gorgeous wide wave like promenade have changed the area from being like a frumpy old nana, to a younger vibrant and buzzing place that is absolutely worthy of your attention. A perfect destination for a quiet beach holiday in Spain.
Plenty of room on the beach, when compared to the Levante, even in summer. The road is one-way and is restricted to traffic with a sensible speed limit of just 20kph, making this a really safe space for families. And for cyclists there is a superb cycle track the entire length of the Poniente.
THE SANDS
Being less of a hot spot when compared to the Playa Levante makes for more room to spread yourself out a bit without the need to get sand kicked in your face. Yes, the Poniente offers more room to roam, more room to swim and more room to stroll hand in hand along the shore with your loved one, or someone else´s loved one! Between the Old Town park Elx by the harbour and Cala Poniente at the far end you have three kilometres of pristine beach, and a curving promenade and board walk to enjoy.
PONIENTE EATS & DRINKS
The choice of dining options are numerous, ice cream parlours, café bars and bistros plus superb Pizzerias all overlooking the sea and sand. For fine dining you will find award winning Spanish restaurants (big on Paella and fish). Whether you fancy a Chip Butty or a seafood feast direct from the bay, you will find it along the Poniente. The best restaurants trendy bars are worth the walk to the far end of the beach known as Cala Poniente and from there, if you are feeling energetic you can walk to Cala de Finestrat beach.
THE SHOPPING
There are some excellent shopping opportunities to be had. You will find Jakarta a superb fashion and accessories shop, Ale-Hop, some fine independent boutiques and long established swimwear shops. Even a Carrefour mini supermarket, a brand new chemist and a big sports store.
WATERS EDGE BAREFOOT PADDLE!
To really get the most out of the Poniente it is best to walk or paddle from end to end at least once! We highly recommend doing a barefoot paddle all the way along the waters edge, then enjoy an ice cream or drink at the Portus Massai just past the Delfin Tower as a reward. It really is smashing! From there you can catch one of the frequent buses back to the Levante and old own if you are tired.
